As the world’s quest for the perfect night of sleep continues, doctors and researchers are starting to get creative and curious. It’s long been thought that certain vitamins and minerals can help you fall asleep, get deeper sleep, and sleep longer. Among these vitamins and minerals thought to help with sleeping is Vitamin D3.*
Vitamin D3 is one of the best natural supplements you can take to increase both your health and sleep quality. If you’re wondering how Vitamin D3 can help you get a good night’s sleep and how to get more of it into your body, you’ve come to the right place.*
What is Vitamin D3?
Vitamin D3, also known simply as Vitamin D or cholecalciferol, is one of the most important vitamins needed by the human body. You can find it in animals, food, supplements, and other forms of nature. It’s also the form of Vitamin D that your body produces when you spend time in the sunshine, which is one of the best ways to absorb it naturally.*
In addition to helping with sleep, some of the other benefits that Vitamin D3 has.
- Helps your body produce and absorb calcium which is the best way to strengthen your teeth and bones.*
- Improves both your mood and your immune system*
- Helps reduce inflammation*
- Strengthens your heart and improves overall function*
The great thing about each of these benefits that Vitamin D3 provides is that they inadvertently help with sleeping. If your heart and bones are healthy, you have a strong immune system, and you are in a good headspace, you’re sure to experience better sleep. In turn, a healthy sleep life will go on to improve other aspects of your life.*
Why Choose Vitamin D3 Over Sleep Aids
Because of how coveted a healthy sleep life is, more supplements, sleep aids, and medications are on the market than ever; while each of these sleep aids is helpful for a time, your body tends to work up a tolerance to them. Eventually, you end up taking too much of them, and they can cause damage to your overall health.*
When you invest in natural vitamins and minerals that help with sleep, such as Vitamin D3, you don’t have to worry about building a tolerance. You also don’t have to worry about Vitamin D ever causing damage to your body because it’s an essential vitamin you need daily.*
Finally, as we showed above, Vitamin D3 isn’t just good for sleep health. Vitamin D3 helps your body in more ways than one, making it an excellent multi-use vitamin. While you have to worry about the side effects of sleep aids and medications, the only Vitamin D side effects you need to worry about are good ones!*
How Does Vitamin D3 Help With Sleep?
The main way that Vitamin D3 helps with sleep is in all the ways it improves your overall health and wellness. However, here are a few more direct and specific ways it helps you.*
Vitamin D Helps Produce Melatonin
When it comes to sleeping, melatonin is the number one hormone that helps you both fall asleep and stay asleep. While your body produces some melatonin on its own, it often isn’t enough to satisfy your needs. Rather than popping a melatonin supplement, which you’ll eventually build up a tolerance to, you should consume more Vitamin D3.*
Vitamin D3 helps produce melatonin in your body, which will help you sleep better. Vitamin D3 for melatonin will also help you get a deeper and more restful sleep.*
Vitamin D Reduces the Chance of Having a Sleep Disorder
Another way that vitamin D3 helps with sleeping is that it reduces your chances of suffering from occasional sleeplessness. Occasional sleeplessness and occasional sleep latency are all associated with low levels of Vitamin D. Once you’re low on Vitamin D, it’s tough to catch up.*
What Happens if You Don’t Get Enough Vitamin D3?
If you don’t have enough vitamin D3 in your body, you’re almost guaranteed to struggle with sleep. However, Vitamin D deficiencies are also linked to unhealthy bones, muscles, and teeth.*
Unfortunately, there are nearly as many people with vitamin D deficiencies as there are with a surplus of them. Vitamin D isn’t necessarily difficult to get into your body; it simply isn’t considered a priority.
When to Take Vitamin D to Help With Sleep
While there’s no bad time to take Vitamin D, you want to be a little meticulous about it if you’re hoping to improve your sleep pattern. Because Vitamin D affects your melatonin and serotonin levels, you want to take it at the right time. Additionally, Vitamin D can affect each person differently, so it is important to take it at the time that is best for you.
For many people, the best time to take Vitamin D3 for sleep and health is in the morning. This is important because Vitamin D3 doesn’t absorb easily into the body. As a result, it’s important to take it while you’re eating food, specifically breakfast.
Taking Vitamin D3 in the morning gives your body plenty of time to absorb and utilize it. That way, it will be fully absorbed into your bloodstream and metabolized at night when you’re ready to head off to bed.
In contrast, some people should take Vitamin D in the evenings just before bed if it makes you tired. Vitamin D formulas that include calcium are typically best to take in the evening because the most bone building occurs while you sleep. Supplying calcium just before this process begins can give your body the nutrients it needs to help build strong bones.*
How to Get Vitamin D Into Your Body
Despite being one of the most important vitamins in the human body, Vitamin D3 is surprisingly difficult to find. The easiest way to absorb it is by spending time in the sunshine because the UV rays from the sun will cause your skin to produce Vitamin D. Unfortunately unless you live in Florida or California, there will be times throughout the year when the sun isn’t shining. When the sun isn’t an option, here are a few other ways to get Vitamin D into your system.
- Fish such as salmon or tuna
- Nuts such as almonds, peanuts, and cashews
- Dairy products such as milk and yogurt
- In pill form with a Vitamin D3 supplement
Ultimately, getting Vitamin D3 into your system isn’t as important as simply getting enough of it.

The Importance of Minerals for Sleep
The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) reported that calcium and magnesium are both essential trace minerals to support high quality sleep in adults. Somni is comprised of a vast number of natural ingredients that will aid a healthy amount of sleep, the most important would be magnesium. An essential nutrient for over 300 different processes within the body, magnesium has been shown to work against the effects of occasional sleeplessness by helping people stay asleep longer to increase sleep efficiency. Somni contains magnesium bisglycinate, regarded to be highly bioavailable in comparison to other magnesium supplements. Magnesium bisglycinate has a variety of beneficial effects.*
The first is an improved sleep quality for people who take it. Additionally, when compared with other magnesium-based products, this ingredient has a decreased laxative effect, and reduces abdominal discomfort. In addition to magnesium, calcium deficiency has been linked with poor sleep quality. Somni contains AAACa, which many consider the absolute best calcium, found in AdvaCAL™.*
A Synergistic Blend of Relaxing Herbs to Maximize Relaxation
Herbs have powerful sleep-enhancing properties that can promote a good night’s sleep. They help the body’s natural processes before and during sleep.
Somni contains many different herbs, including chamomile, passionflower, and ashwagandha. Smaller doses of the mentioned herbs work synergistically together to support the overall body function of sleep for a good night’s rest. On its own, chamomile has displayed it can provide better quality sleep, specially among the elderly. With passion flower, it has been shown to help to increase levels of Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain, which may lower brain activity, making it easier to relax and get some rest. Preliminary research on ashwagandha shows that it can help those suffering from occasional sleep disturbances and occasional stress.*
Additional Support with Amino Acids Plus Vitamin D3 to Promote Rest
Amino acids play an essential role in many physiological processes, including sleep. A key component of Somni is the amino acid, L-Theanine. At a dose of 200mg per serving, it has shown to be helpful in reducing occasional sleep latency or sleep disturbances. Its biggest benefit is that it can promote relaxation and occasional stress reduction without any adverse effects regarding drowsiness or sedation. You’ll end up with better sleep without sacrificing the energy you need throughout the day.*
Another ingredient that’s crucial yet commonly looked over is 5-HTP, which produces serotonin in the body. The serotonin is then converted into the melatonin hormone, which as mentioned above, is a vital part of sleep regulation. Melatonin levels in the body naturally rise in the evening to help promote rest and falls in the morning to get the body up on time. With proper supplementation of 5-HTP, you can easily increase natural melatonin production in the body, further aiding your sleep schedule. Vitamin D has been included as Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with occasional sleeplessness.*
Instead of worrying about how many different supplements you need to buy to help you sleep, Somni offers an all-in-one approach that’s easy to manage and delivers outstanding results.

One more excellent product!
This is the second product I got to know from LaneInnovative. The first one I am still using and very happy with it. The second one is Somni. It helps very gently falling asleep and staying asleep. I am usually taking 1 or 2 capsules. I don’t have any side effects or tiredness in the morning.
Really works for me!
Sleep has been an issue for me and more so in the last few years. I’ve tried many products including other blends as well as some of the individual ingredients in this blend. However the synergy of products in this have made all the difference as I fall asleep within the hour and sleep through the night with no after effects next morning. So far I’ve needed only 2 capsules but it’s reassuring to know I can take the 3rd if necessary.
